DR. ALICE SHIPMAN-CAMPBELL ‘68

Alice was elected to the Compton High School Alumni Association in 2014. Alice notes that she gives God All the Glory for being “The Source” that guides her steps and “Provider” of resources in her life. Alice has been a CHSAA Board of Director member since 2013. She says her interest and commitment in the field of education was sparked by the combined influences of her great grandmother and grandmother along with the enriching and empowering student experiences she enjoyed as a student in Compton Unified School District from K-12th grades. Alice earned a Bachelor of Arts in English/Journalism and Master of Art and Doctorate degrees in Education. Before retiring, Dr. Campbell successfully served in the field of Education as a district level charter school coordinator in Los Angeles; a high school and middle school principal in the Bay Area; and as a high school English teacher at Lynwood HS. Currently Alice works tirelessly as the founder of a women’s empowerment organization that focuses on literature and personal development and produces an annual women’s empowerment conference. She is also an active Dream Team Leader of the “Women on the Grow” Organization founded by another CHS Class of ’68 alum, Jewel (Lewis) Diamond Taylor. Dr. Campbell emphatically states that her best days are still ahead! She plans to continue serving schools/students by using her extensive training and certification in Conflict Mediation and Character Building programs to introduce these student programs to schools locally and state wide. Although Alice says she lives daily to be a blessing and of service to others, her greatest love, pride, and joy derives from her blessings and relationship with her son and daughter. Her son, Rahsaan Jaleel which means “a king or leader that should be respected and honored” and with her daughter, Naeemah which means “joyful blessing”. Interestingly, they both were loved and named by their late father who is also a Compton HS alum from the Class of ’68, Thomas (Tommy) Campbell. Dr. Alice Shipman Campbell is excited and hopeful that her volume of experience, skills, and energy will move the CHSAA mission forward.
