In September 2006, the Tarbabe Task Force was formed. The The Compton High School Alumni Association (CHSAA) evolved from the Tarbabe Task Force’s Organizational Action Team that brought alumni from coast to coast, from Atlanta and from Africa and from points in between, back to Compton to identify ways to give back to the School of Champions. From that effort, the first Compton High School Alumni Day was held on May 15, 2007, and a symbolic “sword” was passed from the Task Force to the CHSAA to carry out the mission long term. Deborah Spottsville spearheaded the development of the first CHSAA website and established the groups Facebook page. The website was modernized in 2018 (www.comptonhighalumni.org). The CHSAA Facebook page grew out of a newsletter Deborah started in 2005 for her Compton High Class of 1973 and eventually distributed to members of other classes. The newsletter published information about class reunions and other alumni events, bereavement notices, and profiles of alumni. Deborah remained active as a volunteer and advisor keeping the alumni informed about various news and events through the Facebook page. The Compton High School Alumni Association’s primary objectives are:
• To provide funds for scholarships and offer educational programs which benefit of the students and alumni. The programs shall include academic, arts and music education, and field trips. • To sponsor and participate in existing community-service activities to foster volunteerism • To sponsor social activities to foster connections with the Compton High School alumni, students, faculty and administration • To acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of Compton High School and its graduates. Deborah Spottsville was honored on May 19, 2012 by the Compton City Council, the Compton Class of ’73, and Hall of Fame Inductee Timothy Wright III ’73 for her lengthy, dedicated service to the Compton High School Alumni Association during the 1st Annual Gospel Fest at the Compton High School auditorium.
